We are excited to welcome Jenn Held to our team!
As our Intake & Adoptions Manager, Jenn coordinates with other shelters and rescue groups to transfer pets in and out of our facility, and assesses pets for adoption to ensure they are happy and healthy. She has spent the past 13 years working in municipal and nonprofit animal shelters, serving in various operations roles from foster programs, volunteer and outreach, shelter director, and more. She grew up in Richmond, Va., and moved to Florida from Norfolk. Jenn’s passion for animal welfare sparked when her family rescued a large American Bulldog and she began educating herself about behavioral issues and shelter animals. It was also around the time that the Michael Vick case was underway.
- What drew you to FOS?: “While visiting the area, this was the first shelter I walked into where I was greeted by friendly faces that were excited to talk about sheltering. I was most grown to FOS because I love being in shelters that embrace growth and are going through transitions, with FOS moving into bigger buildings I felt this was a great opportunity.”
- What pets do you have at home?: “I currently have (a couple) dogs. I have one English bulldog, two frenchies, one pittie and a pointer/doberman/mix.”
- Just for fun, is there any pet animal that you would be scared to have in your home? “BIRDS. For some reason, that is one species that I have never felt confident around. I got slapped by a turkey once and for some reason it has taken me a while to recover from the emotional hit of being slapped in the face by a bird!”
