Pet Guardianship Program

Your pets will never be without a loving home

The Pet Guardianship program is a safe way to transition your pets into a loving new home if they outlive you. The service is available to cats and dogs, regardless of whether they were adopted from Friends of Strays.

By designating Friends of Strays as a temporary guardian of your pets, our trusted staff will pick up your pets and bring them to our shelter where they will be cared for as beloved family members. While we find the perfect new family for them, your pets will stay in the home of one of our trained and caring foster volunteers. They’ll also have access to appropriate veterinary care and vaccines from Friends of Strays to ensure their health before being re-homed.

How to enroll

The first step is to make a provision for a gift to Friends of Strays in your estate plan. Then, let us know using our Estate Planning Notification form, so we can add you as a member of the Jean Bomonti Founders Society.

  • You’ll need to fill out the Pet Guardianship Notification form to officially enroll your pets in the program.
  • Next, you’ll need to submit a Pet Profile form for each pet you wish to enroll. You can submit additional pet profiles to enroll animals you adopt in the future. This critical information about your pet will be shared with your pet’s new family.
  • Provide us with a photo of your pet for proper identification and to add to their profile form.
