Job Summary

The events manager will work as an integral member of the development team to promote Friends of Strays (“FOS”) in the community and raise funds through both FOS’ hosted fundraising events and community events that benefit and/or highlight FOS. This position will at all times adhere to the ethical guidelines set forth by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

They must be organized, a skilled communicator, and have excellent critical thinking skills as well as an interest in animal welfare. They will be responsible for planning and executing fundraising events, researching potential community events and collaborating with the development team and the volunteer manager. The incumbent will independently track and execute event and outreach goals.

Essential Job Functions

1. FOS Fundraising Events Management

The events manager will oversee the planning and preparation for fundraising events held by FOS to garner financial support and community goodwill. The events manager will coordinate efforts with the marketing and communications manager and the volunteer manager and will be responsible for developing and overseeing planning committees for FOS fundraising events, as needed.

The events manager will be responsible for coordinating efforts to solicit businesses in the community to procure sponsorships and donations of items for silent auctions, live auctions, and raffles to be held at events.

2. Community Events Management

The events manager will serve as the initial contact and liaison for businesses and community groups interested in benefiting or partnering with FOS in a community event, considering the logistical and financial feasibility, and presenting all ideas to the development team.

If the event requires a FOS presence, the events manager will attend the community event at the given time and location and will coordinate with the volunteer manager to utilize volunteers at the event as needed.

3. The events manager will create and coordinate a calendar for the use of the FOS Community Room and will work with all necessary staff to ensure the room is properly and successfully utilized.

4. The events manager will be responsible for exploring and conceptualizing additional opportunities for community events, FOS’ hosted events, and uses for the FOS Community Room, considering logistical and financial feasibility, and presenting all ideas to the development team.

Required Skills

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role

Understanding and passion for animal welfare and sheltering

Proven experience in planning of and preparation for community and fundraising events

Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure

Excellent organizational and leadership abilities

Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate verbally and electronically with the public, FOS leadership, staff, and volunteers

Creative thinking and proven systematic organizational skills to work independently, determine workload priorities to complete work in a timely manner, and identify and resolve problems

Proven skill at working in a collective environment, including interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with colleagues, students, community members, and workers from diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds

Form community partnerships and build relationships with businesses and community groups

Community relationships and connections in the Pinellas Co region (preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $43,888.00 per year
