Foster Manager

The Foster manager is responsible for recruiting, coordinating, training, and retaining the foster family core and collaborating with colleagues to ensure each foster family experience within Friends of Strays is rewarding and that they have the information and tools they need to perform the job they volunteered for.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate foster families.
  • Be available to take calls for after hours emergencies and direct the foster parent appropriately.
  • Develop, update, enhance and edit foster care training and program materials as needed.
  • Schedule and host regular foster volunteer training sessions and accommodate special individual trainings as needed.
  • Represent Friends of Strays to foster families, ensuring they are shown appreciation on a regular basis; provided friendly and respectful guidance, feedback, and opportunities to contribute; and interact with them regularly.
  • Promote a strong commitment to teamwork, customer service, consistent standards, and continuing development and growth of the Foster Program.
  • Ensure foster families receive the timely support, information, and tools they need to succeed.
  • Provide support to foster families when difficult situations arise.
  • Keep foster families updated on program enhancements, challenges, policies, and protocols.
  • Review foster applications and responds to new applicants in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and medical team to plan, develop, implement, and oversee all activities related to the foster care program.
  • Manage and maintain foster family contact information, training records, schedules, and participation.
  • Assure that animals in foster placement receive the proper veterinary care needed.
  • Maintain inventory of foster supplies and materials.
  • Assist with customers as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Hands-on experience with animals preferred
  • Knowledge of canine and feline body language
  • Ability to follow Friends of Strays processes and protocols.
  • Experience with data entry and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn shelter software for appropriate documentation and record keeping
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail, good organization, time management, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work independently but also be a team player, working well with others
  • Patient and professional in dealing with customers, co-workers and volunteers
  • Commitment to the Friends of Strays mission
