Cat Box Adoption Center Grand Opening
You’re invited: Friends of Strays will open its brand new cat adoptions center, The Cat Box, Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m.! The public is welcomed to see the new building following a ribbon cutting ceremony with the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.
The Cat Box is located at 3015 46th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33714.
In celebration of the grand opening, the first adoption of the day will get a special gift basket, and all adopters will go home with a gift for their new feline friend (while supplies last). In lieu of an adoption fee, we will be accepting monetary donations to take home a cat or kitten. All our pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and have received their age-appropriate vaccinations.
The Cat Box will be the new living quarters for the adoptable cats and kittens of Friends of Strays. In this fully renovated, outfitted space, cats of all kinds will find the environments they desire while waiting for someone to adopt them: free-roaming rooms for cat-friendly cats, traditional kenneled rooms, single or bonded rooms, and of course, kitten rooms! In addition, being separated entirely from our adoptable dogs will help create a quiet and relaxed space for our cats as they wait to be adopted. For now, dog adoptions will remain at our current shelter site at 2911 47th Ave. N, St. Petersburg FL.
The Cat Box is the first of three phases in what will be the Schwartz Family Adoption Campus at Friends of Strays. Renovations will begin soon on the Milkey Bone Dog House, next door to the Cat Box, in 2025. Once both adoption buildings are completed, the current shelter building at 2911 47th Ave. N will be transitioned for medical, intake, foster, and TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return) program needs.
“This new space is the result of 45 years of work by our staff, volunteers, and fosters to save the lives of cats and dogs in need, and of the generous community support that has allowed us turn this expansion into a reality,” said Dara Eckart, CEO.
